About This Event

PSUK is delighted to invite you to the:
Effective Performance Management and Handling Difficult Conversations

Trying to get the best performance from each team member, every day, is one of the most challenging tasks that a manager or team leader encounters. Effective performance management is about planning performance, agreeing standards, monitoring performance, diagnosing the cause of problems, communicating effectively and reinforcing good behaviour: thereby creating a positive work environment where team members can improve and flourish.

Do you ever feel apprehensive about raising a concern or problem with a team member, but know that it will only get worse if you don't? Do you know how to resolve conflict that has already set in within the workplace? Can you deal calmly with difficult people, and manage your own emotions as well as theirs? Can you find an outcome that will satisfy everyone? Having difficult conversations can be stressful, yet it is an inevitable part of a manager’s role. Managers who avoid difficult conversations risk undermining their own position and potentially losing credibility with staff.

This course will provide you with a broad understanding of the informal and formal performance management process and employment law context as well as equipping you with the techniques to ensure team members perform to the peak of their abilities.

This course will also help anyone who struggles with difficult conversations in the workplace, whether about work-related performance, misconduct, interpersonal skills, personal hygiene, absence or other challenging topics. It should provide you with a range of options for tackling difficult conversations at work in a professional and objective way, making sure that the point you want to get across is made clearly and confidently, whilst also taking into account how the message is received and individual’s employment rights.
